My objective for this project is to create objects out of light like circles, lines, shapes, or words.
Research
This technique is called light painting and what you are going to want to do is, set yourself up in a dark isolated room with a tripod then you would want to adjust your camera settings. You would have to adjust the IOS and mid-range aperture settings to allow you to set the length of time on your shutter speed. You'll have to keep moving so that the picture isn't all messed up.

Original Photos
Printed and Matted Photos
Five Step Critique
1)Observe 2)Describe. The photo that I have chosen to print and mat was a photo of my friend Lily she was sitting on a bed which can't be seen in the photo, there is also a white full length mirror that is behind her, but it is barely recognizable with all the light circles around her body. There is a red chair in the corner of a room with a white vanity in the background, Lily is the focus of the picture with circles that surround and cover her face created by Christmas lights that were strung up around the room I had photoshopped it so that the Lily's face and body was out of focus and I had used the sharpen tool to enhance the circles of the light. On the left there is a yellow and black tapestry that is mainly cut out and blurred. In the bottom left corner you can see the top of a head with blonde/ brunet hair that is parted on the right. It was printed on a glossy 4 by 6 inch paper with a grey one inch border with a white core. 3)Analyze. In this photo I had used line and color out of the elements of art because I had used line with the circles to enhance them to become brighter and bolder which also drew emphasis on Lily's outline, which I had also used color because the way Lily's shirt is white against the orange/yellow lights which really made them pop, also the way that the camera made the room have a yellow/orange tint which was made by how the lights were strung up around the room giving it the only light. The principles of design that I had used were shape and form, I had used shape with the way the lights made circles, this showed shape because the circles were over Lily's face and they were also around her which the way Lily is in the background gives the picture a unique look which also draws emphasis to the circles. I had used form because once again the way the circles are placed, this shows form because the circles aren't like normal circles they are more oval like and don't connect fully and there are multiple layers with the lights which gives the picture an abstract look because they aren't completely full but the viewer can still make out what they are trying to present. 4)Interpret. The interpretation that I had taken away from this photo was that it was a nice winter day where there was a group of friends hanging out and doing a photo shoot, I thought this was presented well because of the way Lily had a serious face which was proved that she was posing and the way that she whole picture had an autumn glow. Which leads the viewer to believe that it was a dark day, hence why the only thing lighting the photo was Christmas lights and how Christmas lights were hung up which makes the viewer believe that it was close to Christmas time. 5)Evaluate. This photo I thought was a success because of how all the items in the photo really go together, although I think I can improve this photo is by possibly adding a filter even though the Christmas lights already gave it a warm feeling I believe that if I added a warm filter or possibly even a red one then it could have really made the lights and Lily pop. Also I think that if I would've made the viewers attention to the photo, I could've also achieved this by taking sandpaper to the cuts on the border.
